Laura-Jean Ashley, a 25 year old entrepreneur, is making a significant impact on the world with her new company, LaJAshley, which specializes in making All Natural Ingredient Hair Products. LaJashley is devoted to informing individuals about the need for better hair care and is passionate about championing the cause for natural hair around the world.

B.R.: How did your journey of making natural hair products begin?

L.A.: I was tired of perms/relaxers and my short term experimentation with weaves. They were not only costly, but damaging to my hair.

B.R.: Entrepreneurship requires a lot of work, what are some of the factors that gave you the courage to venture out?

L.A.: Wanting something better to keep my hair manageable and attractive pushed me to research. While doing so, I would share my ideas with a good friend who also is an entrepreneur. He helped water the seed that began to take root in my own mind.

B.R.: How has being a woman of Faith played a role in your business?

L.A.: Knowing that it takes faith to bring to pass the thought of any venture, I had to trust God for the resources, time and effort it takes to even begin to do a business. I also needed to trust that people would see the need of my products in their lives.

B.R.: Making a product from scratch I'm sure is not an easy task, where did you learn about ingredients and how they work together?

L.A.: It is not easy at all. However, because I have a Chemistry degree and was interested in research, I did just that. Hit the books, other resources, and experimented on my hair. Tested, researched and experimented some more until I got what worked.

B.R.: What can you tell some of our readers as to why it is you chose to use only natural ingredients in your products and how important it is for hair care?

L.A.: You can't go wrong using natural products. They have no side effects (unless you are allergic to certain plants, and even that varies internally and externally). I came to the conclusion that, if certain foods are good on the inside, they'd be good on the outside as well.

B.R.: I have had the opportunity to use your Conditioner and I must say… the results were amazing! My hair has never felt so soft after using it. What is the main ingredient used for this result?

L.A.: I'm glad you are happy with your results. It's not just a main ingredient, but the blending of different ingredients that give the amazing results you experience.

B.R.: How did you come up with the name "LaJAshley"?

L.A.: LaJAshley is actually parts of my name created by my mom and myself.

B.R.: Where do you see "LaJashley" in the next 5 years?

L.A.: In the next five years, I see LaJAshley as a national and international entity with salons that will incorporate body, skin and hair care. It would also be a resource for those who would like to live a healthier lifestyle.

B.R.: What in your opinion are some key mistakes people make while becoming their own boss?

L.A.: One mistake people make when they start a business is thinking they become successful overnight. Another mistake people make is their unwillingness to put into a business, time and effort (handwork). Still another mistake is quitting when the going gets tough and not asking for help from people who have done it before them; thinking they can do it on their own.

B.R.: What words of encouragement would you like to share with someone who has created a product, but is afraid of putting it out there?

L.A.: Make sure it works first. People are tired of gimmicks that promise miracles, but don't provide a spark of hope. But never give up and keep on trying.
